These will come in three categories- 1,2,3 Kilowatt as per the requirement of the area of each house.
Chandigarh was earlier declared as model solar city and already boasts of a 50 KWp grid interactive rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Paryavaran Bhawan and a 100 KWp Grid interactive Rooftop based Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at Model Jail, Burail, being the first such jail in the country.
‘We are going to send a quota of 300 houses to the ministry of renewable energy on Monday. Discussions with the officials have already been held. We have not identified the houses but made a general quota, so that each type could avail the facility in the first phase of this venture. We were trying for 50% subsidy, but the ministry agreed on 30%’, said Santosh Kumar, director, science and technology department, UT.
The cost of 1 kilowatt solar energy plant would fall between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.10 lakh approximately. The department had recently identified five government houses in Sector 7 for installing solar plants. Tender has been allotted to the company to install the equipment.
