Aligned with its all-electric future belief, Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd, a part of USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group offered the country its first Electric Technology Manufacturing Hub at Bengaluru, Karnataka. Mahindra the EV technology pioneer of India has a mobility vision of making clean, connected and convenient vehicles and is taking steps towards it with revolutionary EV concepts, solutions and products reported Mahindra electric.
The way in which electric vehicle technology is going to be used in India is expected to get completely transformed under +ME brand of Mahindra, with this facility. Karnataka Government has also had an important role in this facility’s development. This facility established at Rs.100 crore was inaugurated by Honorable Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries, IT and BT, Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, Shri KJ George with Honorable Minister for Revenue, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Government of Karnataka, Shri RV Deshpande, Honorable Minister for Social Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka, Shri Priyank M Kharge, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd and Chairman, Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd., Dr. Pawan Goenka.
In the year 2017, Karnataka State Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy was announced and since then this is the first such project to have obtained clearance from the Department of Industries & Commerce’s SLSWCC.
The vital parts of an electric power train including power electronics, battery packs and motor assembly will be manufactured as per global manufacturing standards in this new facility under +ME technologies umbrella. With this facility increase of about 25000 units per year is expected in Mahindra Electric manufacturing. In Karnataka, this facility is expected to provide employment for 200 more people directly and some additional employment through related services.
Treo and Treo Yaari, Company’s first three-wheeler range powered by lithium-ion was rolled out at an ex-showroom price of Rs.1.36 lakhs in Bengaluru. This price also includes the FAME incentives. These electric three-wheelers which include a lithium ion battery free of maintenance also use the Mahindra Electric’s homemade powertrain.
The Treo Yaari electric rickshaw and the Treo electric auto which are made of composite body parts in addition to using light weight technologies, come with the first of its kind weather proof top. Addressing the concerns regarding the range, 170 km (eAuto) is the certified range that these vehicles boast of. Focusing on passenger comfort, these also offer one of the best spacious interiors of the segment. The drivers can enjoy less tiring, clutch free, vibration free, noiseless drive. To meet the rising market demands, the Treo range is built on a common home-grown platform.
The launch of these vehicles is expected to happen in a phased manner starting with select dealers in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, followed by other cities.
