Maruti Suzuki commences fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

A nation-wide fleet resting for Electric vehicles has been commenced by Maruti Suzuki to introduce electric vehicles by 2020 in India. This testing will act like a survey to understand and analyze customer perspectives based on the critical inputs. This extensive research will help to develop and validate the innovative technology. Through this test, it is highly possible to produce suitable and reliable electric vehicles targeting Indian customers.

Suzuki Swift

The proto-type vehicle is manufactured for fleet testing. It has been developed from Suzuki Motor Corporation’s existing model in Japan and it has been manufactured at Maruti Suzuki Gurugram plant in India.

The CEO & Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki India, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa mentioned his view on the initiative, “Maruti Suzuki will introduce Electric Vehicle to India in 2020.  The testing done in different climate conditions will be a great opportunity to understand the insights from real driving conditions. These tests build confidence in us that we will offer the best for our customers.”

At the MOVE Global Mobility Summit which was hosted in New Delhi, Maruti Suzuki displayed prototype electric vehicle (EV). The Japan-spec WagonR, based on Heartect platform is entirely based on the all-electric prototype. The new Suzuki WagonR was launched in its own market in 2017 along with the hybrid powertrain. However, the showcased prototype vehicle was created at Maruti’s Gurugram plant.

Introducing Electric Vehicle by 2020 seems like a confident goal of Maruti Suzuki. As mentioned last year, Toyota and Suzuki will partner to develop electric cars. As for the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), technical support will be provided by Toyota to develop Suzuki EVs. Along with that, electric motors, lithium batteries, and other components will be produced by the carmaker at Gujarat facility. These factors will support Maruti Suzuki to charge EVs a bit aggressively while keeping the cost at the bay.

The Mahindra E2OPlus is the most affordable EV that you can purchase for Rs. 6.07 lakh in India.  (Ex-showroom Delhi).
