Programme Officer Vacancy at HLRN

Job Title: Housing and Land Rights Network, Research Associate / Programme Officer

Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) (www.hic-sarp.org) is a human rights organization dedicated to action for the recognition, defence and full implementation of everyone’s right to a secure place to live in peace and dignity. HLRN uses the human rights framework to advocate for better international and national human rights instruments and standards in order to promote economic, social and cultural rights, especially the rights to adequate housing and land.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting with HLRN’s programme work.
  2. Conducting research on specific thematic issues.
  3. Assisting with fact-finding missions and field work to document violations of housing and land rights.
  4. Assisting with the preparation of training and advocacy material.
  5. Contributing to the HLRN website and HLRN publications.

Eligibility:

  1. A strong commitment to promoting social justice and human rights.
  2. At least three years experience working in the field of human rights and social justice. Experience and knowledge of housing, land and livelihood issues is an advantage.
  3. A post-graduate university degree.
  4. Fluency in written and spoken English and Hindi.
  5. A demonstrated ability to write well in English.
  6. Self-motivated and well organised with high standards of integrity.
  7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to deliver under pressure, and to meet strict deadlines.
  8. Strong analytical and research skills.
  9. Willingness to do field work and to travel.
  10. Ability to network, communicate effectively with partners and the media, and do advocacy work.
