Project Biologists and Project Sociologist Vacancy at KSLCDI

Job Title: Execution of Implementation Plan – Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI) (02 – Project  Biologists and 01 – Project Sociologist )Duration: Up to 31.12.2013 (likely to be extended) and other positions.

Organization Profile: The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research.

Location: Dehradun

Job Description:

  1. He/she will be responsible to carry out specific tasks/activities relevant to Project Components assigned to him/her and submit periodic reports on such tasks.
  2. Field data collection, data analysis, synthesis, and report writing.
  3. Assist Task Supervisors/ Project Coordinator/ Nodal officer in conduct of meetings, field training, workshops and conferences as envisaged in the project.
  4. Prepare scientific papers, reports and presentations and dissemination material / project related outreach activities.
  5. Any other assignment by Project Authorities.

Eligibility:

  1. Masters’ Degree in Zoology/Botany/Life Science/Wildlife Science/Forestry/Environ-mental Science/Social Sciences relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife conservation with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
  2. Given below are the desirable qualification(s) for two Project Biologists (one each in fish and insect) and One Project Sociologist (remote sensing and human dimensions)
  3. Candidates with strong physical and mental abilities. Having a keen desire to carryout arduous field work in the remote and rugged high altitudes of Uttarakhand Himalaya under extreme cold or rainy conditions with minimal logistic support. Demonstrate ability to work in the field under harsh conditions.
  4. Demonstrate a passion for wildlife research and conservation.
  5. Experience in basic wildlife field techniques (study design, sign surveys, line transects, sampling, camera trapping, etc.) and conversant with data analysis, ecological and statistical software.
  6. Have relevant research experience and published research papers to his/ her credit.
  7. Experience of participation in scientific conferences/workshops/meetings.
  8. Field research experience relevant to fish/insects/remote sensing/wildlife science/ high altitude ecology/landscape approach to conservation/ social sciences relevant to human dimension of wildlife conservation.
  9. Prior experience of working with communities/Park people interface and related aspects.
