Snow Leopards, Endangered species now spotted in Uzbekistan

The endangered snow leopard has been spotted, for the first time in Uzbekistan; it was spotted last year in Nepal.

Better, a camera trap snapped not one but two elusive cats roaming the wild in Gissar Nature Reserve – a protected part of the Pamir Mountains, showed images released by conservation groups Panthera and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Only about 3,500 to 7,000 of the endangered cats are left across the world.

The snow leopard is a moderately large cat native to Central Asia mountains. The snow leopard is an endangered species due to poaching because of the parts being used in Chinese traditional medicine. Learn more about the snow leopard here. Their numbers have been dwindling for long. In India, it is found in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarkhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
