India and UK form Green Energy forum

UK and India have formed a green energy forum to enhance and accelerate activities in the field of renewable energy technolgies as per reports.

“The launch of Indo-UK Green Energy Forum would enhance and accelerate Indo-UK activities in clean energy. It will help in introducing long-term and sustainable commercial collaboration in clean energy and especially with a reference to power and energy sector,” UK Minister for Department of Energy and Climate Change, Baroness Verma said here today addressing a conference organized by Confederation of Indian Industry in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the British High Commission.

She stressed energy conservation and efficiency was the concern of every economy today and there was a need for governments and industry to collaborate and work together to build on common goals in energy efficiency

“We all share common difficulties around energy and globally we recognise that it is the concern of every economy,” Verma said.

Elaborating about the Green Energy Forum, Verma said it would be a very good vehicle to bring together an engagement with business and policy makers, think-tanks and politicians.

“A range of policy instruments have been put in place in the UK to help industry and consumers build on energy efficiency measures which have yielded results. The green sector has witnessed a growth in jobs and businesses”, Verma said.

In addition, the industrial sector which accounts for a quarter of the emissions of the country has witnessed a decline in energy intensity by 54 per cent. The prime goal is to try and stop the wastage of energy,” she said.
