Sanofi to use Renewable Energy for its site at Ankleshwar

Sanofi India Limited is exploring options for using renewable energy to fulfil its manufacturing operations at its Ankleshwar site.

As per reports, the company said that it has signed an agreement with wind turbine manufacturer, Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), for a 2.1 MW offsite windmill installation.

Sanofi is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies of the world and has a presence in over 100 countries and have about 100,000 employees across the world.

Sanofi has number of powerful assets to address the new context in the global pharmaceutical market: worldwide presence, an extensive portfolio of prescription medicines, market leadership in vaccines, major biological products, generics medicines, consumer healthcare, animal healthcare, and has a strong and long-established presence in both traditional and emerging markets.

Earlier in 2012, at its Goa’s manufacturing site, Sanofi has demonstrated the utilization of biomass from agro waste to generate energy.

“We strongly support the use of renewable energies, and hence initiated a study in 2012 to better understand the local renewable energy market in India to identify available opportunities”, said Dr Shailesh Ayyangar, managing director-India and vice-president South Asia.

The manufacturing site at Ankleshwar is one of Sanofi’s three manufacturing sites in India.
