Senior Programme Officer – Policy and Advocacy at Christian Aid

Job Title: Research Scientist, CIMMYT

Location: Ludhiana

Salary Scale: INR 9,29,794 -10,42,756 per annum plus benefits

Term: Fixed term national contract until 31 December 2015

The EIDHR programme is supported by the European Commission to work on theCivil Society Joint Action Programme to promote Dalit Human Rights in South Asia. The EIDHR project will be implemented by Christian Aid, in partnership with local civil society organisations working on human rights issues in South Asia which includes India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Job Description:

Looking for candidates with a degree in a development related discipline with substantial and relevant experience of working on policy issues on human rights. Other essentials are experience of implementing/managing complex programmes through a partnership approach with civil society; good knowledge of working on programmes of institutional donors such as DFID, European Commission;experience of working on policy issues related to social exclusion including addressing caste based discrimination, human rights, inequalities and governance; experience in developing policy analysis, developing policy brief and networking with relevant stakeholders. Proficiency in writing and communicating in English is essential. Knowledge of any other South Asia regional languages will be an added advantage.

As this post is based in New Delhi, non -Indian nationals will require a valid work permit to work in India.

Eligibility:

  1. Decision making
  2. Supports and advises on the development of policy and advocacy strategies for Christian Aid’s EIDHR programmes across SA. Plans and implements policy and advocacy strategies. Ensure close and effective monitoring and evaluation in support of advocacy activities. Promotion of Christian Aid’s policies and influence to external audiences including government at the highest levels.
  3. Analytical skills
  4. Analyzing and synthesizing information to understand issues, identify options, and support sound decision making.

Essential

  1. Detailed knowledge of development and humanitarian issues on Social Exclusion, poverty and human rights, with a particular focus on caste based discrimination (CBD)
  2. Substantial policy, research or field experience on one or more of the following: Social Exclusion,
  3. Poverty, human rights and Governance
  4. Considerable experience in developing and implementing advocacy activities.
  5. Proven experience of participation in cross-organisational projects and strategies through multi  country/ regional level.
  6. Proven lobbying and/or campaigning experience. Experience of producing promotional, advocacy or campaigning materials.

Desirable

  1. Experience of similar role in institutional funded programmes such as EC/ DFID in South Asia Region
  2. IT competency required
