Welspun Energy commissions 20 MW wind project in Rajasthan

Welspun Energy Ltd. (WEL), has commissioned a 20 MW wind power project in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. Developed within three months, the project uses ten wind turbines for generating an average annual net production of 43.1 GWh, with a capacity utilization factor (CUF) of 24.2%.

Welspun Energy Solar Rajasthan Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary of the company had signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd. The project has been funded in a 75:25 debt-equity ratio and will mitigate 39946 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The company tied-up with leading Wind turbine player & turnkey consultant for the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vineet Mittal, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Welspun Energy Ltd, said, “We are committed to ‘electricity for everyone’ and this need gap can sustainably be closed by increasing investment in renewable energy projects. Welspun Energy is committed to securing the energy future of the country. We are working towards developing additional 1.4GW capacity projects across the nation with wind projects playing a major role in them. Our commitment coupled with increasing reliability and performance of wind turbines is helping us contribute to nation’s energy security agenda.”

Over 11,616 households are expected to be powered by this project .

Rajasthan has tremendous renewable energy potential. With this project, Welspun Energy has commissioned over 80 MW capacities of clean energy projects in the state. WEL is currently developing twin 100 MW wind projects in Karnataka and Rajasthan. Its prestigious 55 (DC) MW located in Jodhpur district is India’s largest solar project to date and has the distinction of being the fastest executed mega solar project. This is one of the highest generating projects in the country and has touched a DC capacity utilization factor (CUF %) of 26%.

Welspun Energy is also considering setting up a 25-MW solar power project at an investment of around Rs 200 crore in Assam.

“We are looking to enter the North East, particularly Assam. To start with, we are considering a solar project to generate 20-25 MW of power at an investment of around Rs. 200 crore,” Welspun Energy President TR Kishor Nair told PTI on the sidelines of an Assocham energy summit in Guwahati.
