The CDLI disclosure scores are based on the methodology developed by CDP and ranks the organization according to the quality of disclosure to the CDP information request. CDP India introduced the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) in India for the first time in year 2011. This year, CDP also published guidelines on the scoring methodology. CDP is a global nongovernmental organization. CDP ask climate change related information including carbon emissions to companies worldwide. CDP sends this information request on behalf of institutional investors. CDP provide a very well know and recognized platform to disclose organizations’ carbon footprint and other relevant information. It is very similar to carbon footprint reporting. Other than CDP, companies can report their carbon emission in their annual report or Sustainability report. There are various standards to report carbon emissions. ISO14064-1 is one of them.
Companies respond to CDP voluntarily. There are no obligations by law/regulations for reporting to CDP. Since CDP is endorsed by world largest institutional investors, companies voluntarily respond to CDP’s disclosure request.
