How Aptera Never Charge can change the global EV market

For most people, while they’re looking to buy a car, fuel efficiency, speed, affordability, innovation, and impact on the environment are the four important factors they keep in mind. However, what if there was a way you could get all this in a car that did not run on petrol or diesel and did not have to be charged like an electric vehicle? If you are looking for an answer, then look no further than the Aptera Never Charge.

It is being touted as one of the world’s most technologically advanced solar vehicles. The reason why it is gaining traction is mainly due to its breakthroughs in aerodynamics, manufacturing, battery efficiency and material science. Powered by the sun, if you drive an Aptera, you won’t have to stop frequently to charge it. The experience of driving this vehicle is an amalgamation of fun, safety and comfort.

Aptera Never Charge is not a car, but a vehicle that serves all functions of a car. It can be more aptly described as an auto-cycle or a motorcycle. The company plans to ship these vehicles across the world soon, wherever national guidelines allow Aptera to roll out its products. Its future plans include the production of right-hand drive vehicles. The vehicle is still in the production stage and the team is working on several facets to ensure that it hits the market soon enough.

This autocycle is 172 inches in length, 88 inches wide and has a height of 57 inches. It also comes with a luggage capacity of 25 cubic feet. The car converts solar power and gives you a driving range of 64 kilometres a day – which theoretically means that you wouldn’t have to charge this car for day-to-day driving requirements.

The company’s decision to make the vehicle run on three wheels is based on its goal of ensuring efficiency. By making better usage of raw materials sourced from natural resources, Aptera aims to reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring efficient transportation. Its body is made of Kevlar, hemp and carbon. The sandwich core is what gives the vehicle its strength.

The team behind Aptera’s Never Charge vehicle includes innovators, industry experts and thinkers. The core team is led by CEOs Steve Fambro, Chris Anthony and co-founder Michael Johnson.

The vehicle sports a sleek design and has a drag coefficient of 0.13. It consumes just 100 watt-hours of energy for every 1.6 kilometres travelled. Hence, Aptera Never Charge’s 110kWh battery pack gives one a driving range of 1,600 kilometre.

Research shows that an average consumer only drives around 29 miles in a day. Aptera Never Charge owners can manage 40 miles a day while clocking 11,000 miles in a year with this solar energy-powered vehicle. The car captures solar energy with its three square-meter solar panels which you can easily upgrade or even replace, should the need arise in future. In case one needs more power, they can get a range of 1,000 miles by just a single charge using a 110 Volt outlet.

If you need an idea about how often you would be required to charge the Aptera vehicle, you can get an approximate range by visiting the company’s official website. The company has designed a calculator that can give you an idea about how frequently you would have to charge the vehicle based on the time zone you live in and the number of miles you drive in a day.

An additive manufacturing process enables Aptera to roll out new models faster than its peers. This is not possible with steel stamping which makes the manufacturing process not just efficient, but also pricier. Despite being radically light, the vehicle is wildly efficient. The company uses artificial intelligence-powered tools to optimize various parts of this solar-powered vehicle to ensure minimum weight and maximum strength. The autocycle’s design is inspired by race cars and fighter jets. Its sandwich-core construction is infused with resin and hence, makes for lightweight structures.

Aptera’s Never Charge has been consistently outperforming many other car models when it comes to efficiency, according to the company’s claims. Offering a range of over 1,000 miles, it is four times more efficient than Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range which offers a range that is a little over 300 miles. Even the BMW I-3 gives you a range of 114 miles. Moreover, this vehicle can cover up to four times the distance covered by electric vehicles that have a battery pack of the same size. When compared to Aptera Never Charge, Rivian needs a battery pack that is 5% bigger to cover a quarter of a mile.

While designing this autocycle, Aptera is placing considerable emphasis on the manufacturing process’s carbon footprint. The Aptera team claims that if the company produces a million vehicles, it will bring down its annual carbon footprint by seven million tons. In fact, every Aptera Never Charge owner will be able to reduce their carbon footprint by around 14,000 pounds per year. The amount of carbon dioxide is what 884 pines trees can absorb in 365 days.
