Shri Sunder Lal Bahuguna visits FRI campus
|Shri Sunder Lal Bahuguna visited FRI campus on 20th Dec., 2011. Sunderlal Bahuguna is a noted environmentalist, Chipko movement leader. He is a follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of Non-violence and Satyagraha. He also spearheaded the Tehri dam protests and repeatedly sat on fasts and dharnas. He is regarded as the protector of the Himalayas.
He has received the following awards:
1981 Padm Shree
1987: Right Livelihood Award (Chipko Movement)
1986 Jamnalal Bajaj award for constructive work.
1989 Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Sciences was conferred by IIT Roorkee
2009: Padma Vibhushan
He interacted with the FRI community and spoke on sustainable utilization of natural resources and global warming. In his words, “In future the sweetest material is not sugar but honey.”
