Performance indicator for Sustainable Development Projects mentioned in DPE guidelines

Part 2, Jump to Part 1

For each project activity as included in scheduled A and scheduled B (Refer table 1), corresponding performance indicator(s) will be identified, monitored and measured to gauge the actual performance of the project that has been taken.  There will be three types of indicators i.e. (1) Environmental Condition Indicators (Ambient) (ECI), (2) Operational performance Indicators (OPI) and (3) Management Performance Indicators (MPI). The details are given below;

Table 1: Performance indicator

Sr. No Performance indicators Detailed information
 1 Environmental Condition Indicators (Ambient)(ECI) Indicators that influence the local, regional, national or global condition of the environment, ecology and energy
 2 Operational performance Indicators (OPI) Indicators that impact the following;

  • Inputs of materials, energy and services
  • Design, installation, operation and maintenance of the  facilities and equipment
  • Outputs of products, services, wastes and emissions (recycled, reused materials, etc.)
 3 Management Performance Indicators (MPI) Indicators that are based on:

  • Implementation of policies and programmes (trainings)
  • Resource allocation & efficient utilization
  • Financial performances (environmental cost management)
  • Community relations (interaction on environmental issues)

Objectives

Evaluation  criteria/Performance indicators

ECI OPI MPI
 1 Waste Management Objective: To reduce hazardous waste generation Concentration of toxic contaminants in waste outlet  stream Percentage of targets to achieving project objective that  have been successful as planned Amount of hazardous waste produced per unit of product
 2 Water Management Objective: To reduce water consumption Concentration of contaminants in water inlet to plant Cost of water savings after implementation of project/activity to achieve objective water consumption per unit of product
 3 Energy Management Objective: To increase energy efficiency Not applicable Number of persons trained in implementing Energymanagement Systems in the plant Energy used annually per unit of product
 4 Renewable energy Objective: To promote utilization of renewable energy Not applicable Percentage of total electricity used from renewable energy either through purchase of RE or REC Resource allocation for setting up of RE generation projects and/or voluntary procurement of RECs
 5 Biodiversity Conservation Objective: To implement initiatives to protect a particular animal species in the vicinity of plant Population of specific animal species within a defined area Not applicable Percentage of initiatives targets that have been achieved
 6 Material & Natural Resource Management Objective: To implement initiatives to ensure the soil quality in the surrounding area of plant Contaminant Concentration in soil Not applicable Percentage of initiatives targets that have been achieved

Note: Performance indicators will be assessed against the targets set by CPSE
