Two PhD Positions on DIARS at Erlangen Nürnberg and the Institute of Geography and Geoecology
|Job Title: Two PhD Detection of invasive plant species and assessment of their impact on ecosystem properties through remote sensing (DIARS)
Location: Institute of Geography at the FAU Erlangen Nürnberg and the Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IfGG)
Description:
The Institute of Geography at the FAU Erlangen Nürnberg and the Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IfGG) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are looking for two PhD students.
Within DIARS it is aimed to detect and monitor invasive species and their impact on natural ecosystems through the combined use of imaging spectroscopy, Lidar and field data. The successful candidate of Position 1 (FAU Erlangen) will use airborne imaging spectroscopy data in combination with one-class classifiers to create baseline invasion maps of three target species. The successful candidate of Position 2 KIT) will assess the ecosystem impact of these invasive species through the combined use of field data and airborne Lidar and hyperspectral measurements.
Eligibility:
MSc or comparable university degree in geoecology, geography, biology or related disciplines.
How to apply:
Please send the application (attached as one pdf-file) to hannes.feilhauer@fau.de (position 1, reference: DIARS1) or to schmidtlein@kit.edu (position 2, reference:DIARS2).
