Internship Opportunity at Dakshin Foundation

Job Title: Internship, Dakshin Foundation

Location: 6 months, with 2 month long trips to the Lakshadweep islands. There is potential for this to develop into a full-time paid position.

Organization’s profile:

Dakshin Foundation is seeking an intern for their community-based fisheries monitoring programme in the Lakshadweep islands. They are currently developing community-based catch monitoring tools for Lakshadweep, focusing our efforts in the islands of Agatti, Kadmat, Kavaratti and Minicoy.

Job Description:

The project involves both social and ecological research regarding the pole and line tuna fishery. Assistance is particularly needed with developing programmes and conducting surveys with fishers; hence, a working knowledge of Malayalam is a necessity for all applicants. Academic qualifications in the social or natural sciences will be an asset. The position is targeted at those interested in working on livelihood and conservation related issues. Additional skills in data management, marine resource monitoring, snorkelling or SCUBA diving can add value.

Expenses and remuneration: Dakshin Foundation shall cover travel to the islands from Bangalore / Kochi, plus all boarding and lodging in the field, as well as provide a small monthly stipend.

Eligibility:

Minimum requirements: Indian citizenship, Bachelors degree, Working knowledge of Malayalam, Interest in socio-ecological systems.
