Department of Telecom seeks PWC for charting carbon credit policy for telecom firms

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has enlisted PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in order to evolve a carbon credit policy for mobile phone companies. Another strategy is to evaluate the techno-commercial feasibility of powering 3.5 lakh telecom towers with green or “renewable” energy. (Read our article entitled Telecom towers to run on renewable sources) PwC India will suggest by end of February as to how telcos can check diesel dependence and reduce carbon footprint. The study will also identify potential of carbon credits40

Carbon Credits approval for RPower Solar Project

The solar project of 100MW capacity of Reliance power in Rajasthan received carbon credit approval under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The Clean Development Mechanism is one of the instruments created under the Kyoto Protocol to facilitate carbon trading. It is the first of the flexible mechanisms governed by a regulatory body – the CDM Executive Board under the UNFCCC. Concentrated solar power systems use mirrors or lenses to focus sunlight into a high energy intensity beam. A40

MAHAGENCO – Successfully Completed One Year in Operating Solar PV Project

The state owned power utility company MAHAGENCO (Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd) is successfully operating a solar PV power plant since the past one year in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. MAHAGENCO operates large thermal power plants in the state making it a major power generating company. MAHAGENCO initially commissioned one demonstration solar PV project of 1MWp capacity. However, this project is its first fully fledged solar project and the electricity generated from it will be used to fulfill Renewable40

Want to earn carbon credits but confused about the future of carbon markets?

It is important to know about the benefits and risks of a carbon credit project considering the uncertainty of carbon markets. Identifying business risks associated with a carbon credit project (Green House Gas emission reduction project) allows a project developer to realize the projected financial outcome in the future and also offer insights on risks related to regulatory and financial aspects. Background: The growing concern about climate change among world leaders resulted in an international treaty-United Nations Framework Convention on40

How solar PV projects can earn carbon credits?

Renewable energy is helping many countries to complete its economic transformation and achieve energy security.  Solar energy is one of the most abundantly available forms of energy that is be a solution to our everi ncreasing energy demand. The Earth receives 174 petawatts (PW) of incoming solar radiation in the upper atmosphere. Out of that, approximately 30% is reflected back to space while the rest is absorbed by clouds, oceans and land masses. There are very few technologies available to harness solar energy and convert40

The long awaited reforestation project of PIL has been registered under the VCS

The long awaited reforestation project from India has been registered under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). Prakash Industry Ltd is now avail carbon revenue benefit from their 282.35 hectares of reforested land. Project is registered on Oct 2011 by VCS board. Prakash Industries Limited (PIL) and their associates have started reforestation activities in Durg, Raigarh and Rajnandgaon districts of Chhattisgarh state in India. India’s first solar PV project registered under the CDM

On 16th May 2011, India’s first 5 MW of installed capacity solar power project registered under the Clean Development Mechanism that uses solar PV technology for power generation.  This project is now eligible to earn carbon revenue from year 2011 onwards. Please find following details relevant to the project activity;   General Info Project Title: 5 MW Solar PV Power Project in Sivagangai Village, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu Project Developer: Sapphire Industrial Infrastructures Private Limited (SIIPL is a subsidiary of40

Methane emission from waste water treatment plants can earn carbon revenue

Methane (CH4) is emitted from both anthropogenic and natural sources.  Fossil fuel production, rice cultivation, biomass burning, and waste management are some of the activities that release methane.  In case of organic waste, it is produced from microbial decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen (Anaerobic decomposition). Wastewater from domestic (municipal sewage) and industrial sources is treated in municipal sewage treatment facilities and private effluent treatment plants (ETPs). If the waste water contains loads of organic constituents (with40
